Milwaukee County holds the top Wisconsin per diem for FY2027, $144 a night in every month, but Dane County's $138 now applies for 7 months of the year, October, April, May, June, July, August and September, after GSA added April to its high band. Door County, listed as Sturgeon Bay, reaches $139 in October, June, July, August and September. All three areas pay $80 of M&IE. Green Bay, Kenosha, Racine, Appleton and Waukesha are not listed and take the standard $113 and $68. With the FY2027 table, three nights in Madison from April 12 to April 15, 2027 total $694 at the federal maximum; the same April stay in 2026, under FY2026 rates, was $610. The two travel days in each total are paid at 75% of the meals rate, and lodging taxes are claimed separately.

Madison's high band now runs from April

Dane County has two lodging levels in FY2027: $138 in October, April, May, June, July, August and September, and $113 in November, December, January, February and March. In FY2026 the upper figure, also $138, covered October, May, June, July, August and September, and the low months paid $110. An April meeting in Madison is therefore paid $28 more per night than a year ago. The low level equals the standard lodging rate, so from November to March a Madison trip differs from a Green Bay one only through M&IE: $80 against $68.

Door County's off season is the standard rate

The Sturgeon Bay area pays $139 in October, June, July, August and September, up $6, and $113 from November to May. Those seven months match the national standard to the dollar. Milwaukee is the opposite case: no season at all, $144 from October 2026 to September 2027, $4 more than last year's flat $140.

Most Wisconsin cities are on the standard rate

Most Wisconsin places with 15,000 people or more in the Census file sit in counties that GSA does not list. That includes Waukesha County (Waukesha, Brookfield, New Berlin), Kenosha and Racine counties, Brown County (Green Bay), Outagamie (Appleton), Winnebago (Oshkosh), Eau Claire and Rock (Janesville). All take $113 for the room and $68 for meals. In the three listed areas the $80 tier breaks down into $20 for breakfast, $22 for lunch, $33 for dinner and $5 of incidentals.

The county line matters in money terms. Three nights in Milwaukee County from May 10 to May 13, 2027 total $712 at the federal maximum; the same nights in Waukesha County, on the standard rate, $577. In Madison, a stay from March 29 to April 2, 2027 straddles the change of band: the March nights are capped at $113 and the April ones at $138, for $837 in all.

Wisconsin gasoline is priced in EIA's Midwest series at $4.109 a gallon (week of October 5, 2026), and residential electricity averaged 19.00 cents per kWh over January to July 2026. Both feed the mileage reimbursement calculator comparison with the IRS rate.

Questions travelers ask

What is the Madison, Wisconsin per diem for April 2027?

$138 of lodging per night and $80 of M&IE per day, under GSA's FY2027 rates for Dane County. April joined the higher band this year; in April 2026 the cap was $110. From November to March the cap is $113. On travel days the M&IE is $60.00.

Does Green Bay, Wisconsin have a non-standard per diem?

No. Brown County has no GSA listing in FY2027, so Green Bay takes the standard $113 for lodging and $68 for M&IE, from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. In Wisconsin only Milwaukee, Dane (Madison) and Door (Sturgeon Bay) counties have their own rates.

Is Waukesha, Wisconsin covered by the Milwaukee per diem rate?

No. The Milwaukee area is Milwaukee County only. Waukesha County is not listed, so a hotel in Waukesha, Brookfield or New Berlin is capped at the standard $113 in FY2027, against $144 in Milwaukee County. The meals rate also differs: $68 against $80. Lodging follows the place where you sleep.
