Vermont's highest FY2027 lodging cap belongs to the Montpelier area, $227 a night in October, August and September, yet its meals rate is $74, a tier below the $86 paid in Burlington, Stowe, Manchester and White River Junction. All 4 seasonal areas count October among their top months. Stowe, in Lamoille County, now has one cap of $184 for the whole year, whereas Windsor County moved the other way and now swings between $134 and $172. Rutland and every county GSA leaves out take $113 and $68. Put through the FY2027 table, three nights in Burlington from October 5 to October 8, 2026 total $943 at the federal maximum, and the same stay in February 2027 $694. The arrival and departure days are paid at 75% of M&IE in both.

Stowe flattened, White River Junction split

Two Vermont areas swapped behaviors between the fiscal years. Lamoille County had $185 most of FY2026 and a dip to $148 in March, April and May; FY2027 sets $184 in all twelve months, so spring trips gain $36 a night. Windsor County did the reverse. It held a flat $144 last year; now it pays $172 in October, June, July, August and September and $134 in November, December, January, February, March, April and May. A winter visit to White River Junction therefore allows $10 a night less than before, a summer one $28 more.

The capital area: top room cap, lower meals tier

Washington County, which GSA labels Montpelier, reaches $227 in October, August and September and adds a middle level of $209 for June and July, up from $167 in FY2026. Its M&IE of $74 splits into $18, $20 and $31 plus $5; Chittenden County's $86 gives $22, $23 and $36. Over a five-day trip the difference is $54.00 in Burlington's favor, even though its room cap is lower.

Burlington itself has three levels: $214 in October, August and September, $202 in May, June and July and $131 from November to April. Bennington County, the Manchester area, peaks at $223 in October, July, August and September. Its upper band covered only October, August and September in FY2026, at $220, so July is the month that changed most there: $55 more per night than in July 2026. The winter floor of $171 is the highest off-season figure of any Vermont area, which keeps a January trip to Manchester above a January trip to Burlington by $40 a night.

Rutland, and charging costs

Rutland is the only Vermont place above 15,000 people in the Census file that lies outside every GSA area, so it is paid at the standard $113. Residential electricity in Vermont averaged 23.95 cents per kWh over January to July 2026, against 18.19 cents nationally, which raises the true cost of an electric car paid at 76 cents a mile; the gas vs electric comparison uses that state figure.
