Maine per diem in FY2027 depends on the month as much as on the place. Bar Harbor and Rockport (Hancock and Knox counties) pay $320 a night in July and August and $137 from November to April, with $92 of M&IE. York County peaks at $229, the Portland area (Cumberland and Sagadahoc) at $216. All other counties take the standard $113 and $68 for the whole fiscal year, October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. The swing is wide enough to change a budget: three nights in Bar Harbor from August 2 to 5, 2027 reach $1,282.00 at the federal maximum, while the same three nights from February 1 to 4 are capped at $733.00. Every Maine area runs on a calendar
All 3 Maine areas are seasonal, and no two use the same steps. Bar Harbor / Rockport has four price levels: $276 in October and September, $137 through the winter, $212 in May and June, $320 in July and August. Its M&IE is $92, the top federal tier. Portland pays $216 in October, June, July, August and September and $119 otherwise, on the $80 tier. In FY2026 its peak covered only June, July and August; October and September joined it this year, so a fall conference in Portland now carries the summer figure.

York County's late-summer jump
Kennebunk, Kittery and Sanford form the York County area. Its winter and spring rate barely moved, $119 to $130, but the peak rose from $201 to $229, and the October and September shoulder from $153 to $184. That is the biggest move of any Maine line this year. York's low season is long, November through June, so a project that can slide by a few weeks out of July and August saves $99 a night on the cap. Census places such as Sanford, Biddeford and Saco all fall in this county.
Lewiston, Bangor and Auburn: one rate all year
Away from these 5 counties the Maine per diem is flat: $113 a night and $68 of M&IE in Lewiston (Androscoggin County), Bangor (Penobscot County), Auburn (Androscoggin County) and Augusta (Kennebec County) and every other town GSA does not list, $51.00 on travel days. Electricity is the cost that stands out for an electric car: Maine homes paid 29.99¢ per kWh over January to July 2026, according to the EIA, against 18.19¢ nationally. Even at that price, home charging covers a mile for a small slice of the 76 cents IRS rate, as the mini calculator below shows.
