Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties top the South Carolina per diem table at $288 a night in March, April and May 2027, with $92 of M&IE, the highest of the 3 meal tiers found in the state. Not one of its twelve monthly caps moved from FY2026. On the beaches the peak falls in June, July and August instead: $202 at Myrtle Beach and $226 at Hilton Head. Columbia holds $115 all year, only $2 above the standard $113 that covers counties such as Greenville and Spartanburg. Worked out with the FY2027 tables, three nights in Charleston from April 12 to April 15, 2027 come to $1,186 at the federal maximum, while the same stay in January 2027 is $976. The two travel days pay 75% of the M&IE, and lodging taxes are reimbursed separately.
Charleston peaks before the beaches do
The Charleston area runs on three steps. March, April and May are capped at $288, November, December, January and February at $218, and October, June, July, August and September at $244. GSA carried the whole FY2026 schedule over unchanged, so a planner who budgeted Charleston last year can reuse the same nightly figures for FY2027. The coastal resort areas follow a different clock, with their top month in June, July and August. A spring conference in Charleston and a summer one in Myrtle Beach therefore both land on their area's highest cap.

Myrtle Beach grew a spring step
Horry County was redrawn more than any other South Carolina area. In FY2026 it had a flat $110 for most of the year, $132 in April and May and $182 in summer. In FY2027 the summer cap is $202, March, April and May pay $147, and the low months bottom out at $113, which is exactly the standard rate. The M&IE stays at $74. Beaufort County, the Hilton Head area, swings from $132 to $226 with $80 of M&IE, a tier above Myrtle Beach.
Columbia, and Greenville on the standard rate
Richland and Lexington counties form the Columbia area at $115 in every month, the same as in FY2026, and $74 of meals. That is close enough to the standard that the area mostly matters for M&IE: $6 a day above the $68 standard. Greenville, Spartanburg, Rock Hill, Florence and Aiken are not in any area; the Census city list used by the search above places them in counties that GSA does not name, so they take $113 and $68.
South Carolina gasoline is priced in EIA's Lower Atlantic (PADD 1C) series, $3.959 a gallon in the week of October 5, 2026, which is $0.395 under the U.S. average. A driver paid 76 cents a mile spends about $0.141 of that on fuel at 28 miles per gallon; the mileage reimbursement calculator splits the trip at the IRS rate.
