Michigan per diem in FY2027 runs from the standard $113 and $68 up to $235 a night in Traverse City in July and August. Detroit (Wayne County) is flat at $160 with $74 of M&IE; Grand Rapids and Pontiac / Auburn Hills are both at $120 with $80. 6 of the 11 areas change price by month, and the rates cover October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. The meal tiers do not follow the room rates: three nights in Detroit from May 10 to 13, 2027 are worth $739.00 at the federal maximum, $120 more on lodging than Grand Rapids but $21.00 less on meals, for $640.00 there. Lodging taxes are claimed separately from these caps. The calculator above starts on Detroit; enter any Michigan city or ZIP code to change it.

Ann Arbor drops its summer rate

Washtenaw County was a seasonal area in FY2026: $146 in April, May, June, July and August and $125 the rest of the year. The FY2027 file replaces both with a single $140. Winter and autumn visits gain $15 a night; a stay between April and August loses $6. The M&IE stays at $80. Anyone who copied a summer 2026 Ann Arbor claim as a template for 2027 will overstate the room by that amount. Midland made the largest jump of any Michigan area, from $120 to $138, and now pays more than Grand Rapids.

Detroit's room is dear, its meal allowance is not

Wayne County has the highest flat lodging line in the state at $160, but its M&IE is $74, one tier below Grand Rapids, Pontiac and Ann Arbor. On a five-day trip the meal gap is $27.00. Oakland County (Pontiac / Auburn Hills) and Kent County (Grand Rapids) share the same $120 and $80. Macomb County has no line: Warren, Sterling Heights and St. Clair Shores take the standard $113 and $68, as do Lansing (Ingham County), Flint (Genesee County) and Kalamazoo (Kalamazoo County). A metro-area project with sites in several counties can therefore carry three different daily maximums.

Traverse City, Petoskey and Mackinac Island: dearer autumns

These three seasonal areas kept their summer peaks almost unchanged but raised October and September. Traverse City went from $134 to $158, Mackinac Island went from $120 to $142, Petoskey went from $171 to $179 in those two months. Traverse City's July and August maximum stays at $235, the same as in FY2026, and its winter floor at $134, so last year October was billed like January. Muskegon and South Haven sit on the base $68 meal tier with summer rooms at $157 and $148.

Questions travelers ask

Is the Ann Arbor, Michigan per diem still seasonal in FY2027?

No. In FY2026 Washtenaw County paid $146 in April, May, June, July and August and $125 otherwise. From October 1, 2026 the lodging maximum is $140 in every month, with $80 of M&IE. Summer stays are capped lower than a year ago, the rest of the year higher.

Why is Detroit M&IE lower than Grand Rapids in Michigan?

GSA sets lodging and meals separately. For FY2027 Wayne County is on the $74 M&IE tier and Kent County on $80, even though Detroit's lodging maximum ($160) is above Grand Rapids' ($120). On travel days the Detroit M&IE is $55.50, Grand Rapids $60.00. Each figure follows the duty location, not the airport.

Do Warren and Sterling Heights, Michigan have their own per diem?

No. Macomb County is not a GSA area, so Warren, Sterling Heights and St. Clair Shores use the standard CONUS rate of $113 for lodging and $68 for M&IE in FY2027. Wayne County (Detroit) and Oakland County (Pontiac / Auburn Hills) do have lines, at $160 and $120 a night.
