Federal per diem in Arizona for FY2027 depends on the month as much as the city: Maricopa County, which covers Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe and Chandler, allows $232 a night in February and March but only $122 in June, July and August, with $86 of M&IE all year. Inside the city limits of Sedona the cap reaches $282 in March and April, the top figure in the state. In all, 5 Arizona areas are listed, valid from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027; any other county pays the standard $113 and $68. Booked for three nights from February 8, 2027, a Phoenix trip comes to $997 at the federal maximum. The same three nights from July 12, 2027 come to $667, a difference of $330 that is all lodging. The calculator opens on Phoenix / Scottsdale; type any Arizona ZIP code to change it.

Sedona is a city, not a county

Most GSA areas are drawn along county lines. Sedona is drawn along municipal ones: the area is the "City Limits of Sedona", and the neighboring Grand Canyon / Flagstaff area covers "Coconino / Yavapai less the city of Sedona". A hotel inside Sedona is capped at $172 to $282 with $92 of M&IE; step outside the limits into Coconino or Yavapai County and the cap becomes $113 to $152, with $80 of M&IE. The meal gap alone is $12 a day. Sedona's calendar has four steps in FY2027: $220 in the fall, $172 in January and February, $282 in March and April, $189 from May through August.

Flagstaff in winter pays the national floor

In November, December, January and February the Grand Canyon / Flagstaff cap is $113, exactly the standard CONUS lodging rate. The area only earns its listing in the other months, at $152. Kayenta (Navajo County) is the reverse case: one flat $147 every month, on the $74 tier.

Phoenix turns the usual season around

Maricopa County's FY2027 table runs $165 from October to January, $232 in February and March, $171 in April and May, then $122 in June, July and August. The $110 gap between February and July is wider than the whole range of Tucson. Tucson (Pima County) moved most since last year: $123 to $171 in FY2026, $154 to $208 now, with its peak in January, February and March.

Arizona gasoline is priced with the West Coast

EIA groups Arizona in its "West Coast (PADD 5) Except California" series, which averaged $5.116 a gallon for regular in the week of October 5, 2026, $0.762 above the U.S. figure of $4.354. At 30 miles per gallon that is $0.171 of fuel per mile, out of an IRS rate of 76 cents. The road trip cost calculator prices a Phoenix to Flagstaff drive with this series.

Questions travelers ask

Why is the Phoenix, Arizona per diem lower in summer?

Because GSA sets Maricopa County's FY2027 lodging cap by month, and June, July and August carry the lowest figure, $122, against $232 in February and March. The $86 M&IE does not change. A traveler who rents a room in July for more than $122 pays the excess unless the employer approves actual expense.

Does Sedona, Arizona have its own per diem rate?

Yes, but only inside the city limits. GSA lists Sedona as a separate area at $172 to $282 of lodging and $92 of M&IE in FY2027. Addresses in Coconino or Yavapai County outside those limits use the Grand Canyon / Flagstaff rate, $113 to $152 with $80 of M&IE.

How much did the Tucson, Arizona per diem go up for FY2027?

Pima County's lodging range went from $123 to $171 in FY2026 to $154 to $208 in FY2027, a rise of $37 at the top and $31 at the bottom. M&IE stays at $80. The highest cap falls in January, February and March; every other month carries $154. No other Arizona area gained as much at the top of its range.

Which Arizona cities use the standard per diem?

Every place outside Maricopa, Pima, Coconino, Yavapai and Navajo counties, since those five hold all the Arizona areas in FY2027. Yuma County, for example, has no line and pays $113 of lodging and $68 of M&IE. Inside Navajo County the Kayenta rate of $147 applies to the whole county.
