The FY2027 per diem for Washington, DC is $295 of lodging a night in March, April, May and June, falling to $203 from November to February and to $192 in July and August, with $92 of M&IE every day, the top federal tier. GSA defines the area as the District plus the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax, the counties of Arlington and Fairfax in Virginia, and the counties of Montgomery and Prince George's in Maryland, so a hotel in Rockville, Bowie or Arlington County is capped exactly like one in the District. The rates run from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. A three-night stay from April 12, 2027 comes to $1,207 at the federal maximum, while the same three nights from August 9, 2027 come to $898. The gap, $309, is lodging only. The calculator above is set on the District.

One rate, three jurisdictions

GSA prints the Washington area under the District, and again under Maryland and Virginia, with identical monthly figures. The text of the area reads: "Washington DC (also the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax, and the counties of Arlington and Fairfax, in Virginia; and the counties of Montgomery and Prince George's in Maryland)". In practice that means a contractor staying in Rockville, Gaithersburg or Hyattsville, or in Alexandria or Arlington County, claims the same $92 of M&IE and the same nightly cap as one lodged inside the District. Beyond those lines the rate depends on the county: Loudoun, for instance, has its own separate listing in the Virginia table. The Maryland page and the Virginia page cover the rest of each state.

Spring is dearest, high summer cheapest

The FY2027 calendar for the District has four levels. October and September sit at $287; November, December, January and February at $203; March, April, May and June at $295; July and August at $192. Compared with FY2026 the spring top rose $19 and the summer floor $9. A May hearing therefore carries a cap $103 higher per night than an August one with the same agenda.

The October 1 step inside a trip

September 2026 was still FY2026, at $275. October 2026 opened FY2027 at $287. Four nights from September 28 to October 2, 2026 therefore mix two caps: $275, $275, $275 and $287, for $1,526 in all with M&IE. The calculator reads each night against its own fiscal year.

Meals at the $92 tier

That tier breaks down into $23 for breakfast, $26 for lunch, $38 for dinner and $5 of incidentals. When a conference in the District serves lunch, $26 comes off that day; on the first and last day the allowance is $69.00 before any deduction. The M&IE page explains how deductions work.

Driving in, the District is priced in EIA's Central Atlantic (PADD 1B) gasoline series at $4.363 a gallon (week of October 5, 2026). Residential electricity averaged 24.66 cents per kWh over January to July 2026, against 18.19 cents nationally.
