North Carolina has 10 GSA per diem areas in FY2027, on M&IE tiers of $68, $74 and $80. The coast moves with the calendar: Kill Devil Hills (Dare County) caps lodging at $267 in June, July and August and $120 from November to March, Wilmington ranges from $113 to $170. Inland, Chapel Hill ($153), Charlotte ($143) and Raleigh ($142) hold one value all year. Unlisted counties use $113 and $68. Four nights in Kill Devil Hills from July 12 to 16, 2027 are worth $1,401.00 at the federal maximum; the same four nights from January 11 to 15, 2027 are worth $813.00, with the whole gap on the lodging line. The calculator above opens on Kill Devil Hills; type a North Carolina city or ZIP code to move it.

Dare County's four-step year

No other North Carolina line swings as far. The Kill Devil Hills cap reads $120 in November, December, January, February and March, $166 in September and October, $190 in April and May, $267 in June, July and August. The top went up from $254 in FY2026, but the bottom went down, from $133 to $120: GSA widened the spread at both ends. A field inspector who can choose the month of a site visit to Dare County controls $147 a night of allowance just by the date.

Carteret unchanged, Wilmington lifted

Atlantic Beach and Morehead City kept exactly the range they had last year, $123 to $178, peaking in May, June, July and August. New Hanover County moved more: Wilmington's top cap rose from $147 to $170, reached in June and July only. Its lowest months, November, December, January and February, pay $113, exactly the national standard, so a winter trip to Wilmington earns its listing only through the M&IE.

Fayetteville: a better room, the base meal rate

Cumberland County is the only North Carolina area left on the base $68 M&IE tier. Its room cap of $129 beats the standard by $16, yet meals pay the same as in any unlisted county. When a lunch is provided at a training session, the deduction there is $19, against $22 in Charlotte, where the tier is $80.

Raleigh against Charlotte

The Charlotte and Raleigh rates sit $1 apart on lodging but $6 apart on M&IE: Wake County is on $74, Mecklenburg on $80. Orange County (Chapel Hill) has the highest flat cap in the state at $153, while neighboring Durham County is at $124. Asheville is dearest in October, November and December at $145, then $125 for the rest of the year. Winston-Salem, Concord, Greenville and Gastonia are among 46 larger Census places on the standard rate.

Regular gasoline on the EIA Lower Atlantic (PADD 1C) series cost $3.959 in the week of October 5, 2026; the mileage calculator turns a route into a claim at the IRS rate.
