Boise (Ada County) has the richest meals allowance in the state, $86, though its room cap tops out at $201. Coeur d'Alene (Kootenai County) peaks at $227 in June, July and August. Nampa, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Twin Falls take the standard $113 and $68. The FY2027 rates run from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. Blaine County has a winter peak and a summer one

Sun Valley / Ketchum has two expensive seasons, not one. Its FY2027 calendar reads $184 in October and November, $316 in December, January, February and March, $183 in April and May, then $293 in June, July, August and September. The summer step is only $23 under the winter top, so the cheap windows are short: two months in autumn, two in spring. Compared with FY2026 the winter cap went up $16. M&IE is $80 all year.

Mountain Home rides on the Sun Valley rate

GSA draws the area as "Blaine / Elmore", and Elmore County carries the same caps as Blaine. The Census file places Mountain Home in Elmore County, so lodging there follows the Sun Valley calendar too, up to $316 in winter, even though the town is listed under neither name. A traveler checking only the city list would assume the standard $113; the ZIP code search gives the right answer.

Boise: modest rooms, top meal tier

Ada County, which covers Boise and Meridian, is the only Idaho area on the $86 M&IE tier. Its lodging moves from $176 in November, December, January, February, March, April and May to $201 in October, June, July, August and September. Canyon County, home to Nampa and Caldwell, has no listing. Three July 2027 nights cost $904 at the federal maximum in Boise against $577 in Nampa, a difference of $327 that is partly meals: $18 a day more on full days. Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls (Kootenai County) sit on the $74 tier with a summer peak of $227, up from $217.

Fuel and power in Idaho

EIA counts Idaho in its Rocky Mountain region, where regular gasoline averaged $4.417 a gallon in the week of October 5, 2026, $0.063 above the U.S. figure. Electricity is cheap: 12.96 cents per kWh for households over January to July 2026, against 18.19 cents nationally. On a Boise to Ketchum drive the IRS rate of 76 cents is the same either way; the gas cost calculator shows what the fuel takes from it.

Questions travelers ask

What is the Sun Valley, Idaho per diem in summer 2027?

From June to September 2027 the Sun Valley / Ketchum lodging cap is $293 a night, with $80 of M&IE. That is $23 less than the winter cap of $316 and well above the $183 of April and May. Three July nights total $1,159 at the federal maximum.

Why does Boise, Idaho get more M&IE than Sun Valley?

In the FY2027 GSA table Ada County is on the $86 M&IE tier and Blaine and Elmore counties on the $80 tier, while Kootenai is on $74. Lodging and meals are set separately, so a cheaper room cap does not mean a lower meals allowance. On a full day in Boise you receive $6 more for meals.

Is Mountain Home, Idaho on the standard per diem rate?

No. Mountain Home is in Elmore County, which GSA includes in the Sun Valley / Ketchum area for FY2027. Lodging is capped at $183 to $316 depending on the month, with $80 of M&IE. The standard $113 applies only in Idaho counties outside the three listed areas, such as Canyon or Bonneville.
